How to Meet Your Girlfriend’s Parents
You’re probably anxious about meeting your girlfriend’s parents, but if things go well, this can be a great step for your relationship. If you impress her parents, you’ll gain their trust and earn points with your girlfriend.
1. Learn about her parents. Find out if they are conservative, sticklers regarding etiquette and politeness, old-fashioned, laid back, easily offended or boring.
Ask your girlfriend if they might be particularly annoyed by any of your habits or if you should modify your behavior in any way.
For example, if you’re a smoker but know that her parents hate smoking, you’ll want to avoid lighting up in front of them.
2. Pick a neutral meeting place. If it’s your decision, choose to meet them on neutral territory. Unless your home is immaculately clean and impressive, avoid meeting there.
Going to their place can be intimidating as well, so plan to meet at a comfortable restaurant or other public place.
3. Dress appropriately. There’s no need to rent a tux, but don’t show up wearing a shirt with dirty college humor or ratty weekend clothes. Try to dress maturely and look neat and groomed, but not self-absorbed and prissy.
4. Be assertive and act interested. Shake their hands, make eye contact, smile and talk often. Ask them questions about their hobbies, their jobs or other things they might mention.
5. Refer to them as Mr. or Mrs. unless they tell you otherwise, always address them as you would a superior at the office or at school.
6. Avoid touchy subjects. Sex, politics, religion and drugs are all bad topics to discuss. If they bring it up, be vague and subtly change the subject.
7. Act natural and be yourself. Chances are, you are an okay guy; otherwise their daughter wouldn’t be so into you.
Signs That Someone Loves You
It can be very easy for someone to say “I love you” to another person. However, it is not quite as easy to display it and mean it. If you spend time thinking about whether a certain individual in your life truly loves and cares for you, take some time out to look for actions instead of just words.
Interests
If someone truly cares about you, he will display a strong interest in you as a person. For example, he will ask you about what you want out of life and your biggest hopes and aspirations.
He will want to know about your likes and dislikes and what motivates and inspires you in life. When a person has a keen interest in the inner workings of another person and truly cares for that person’s well-being, that shows true love.
Shared Happiness
If a person shares in your happiness with you, she loves you. When a relationship is entirely free of jealousy and competition, it is at an elevated level. Love relationships are those that share joy. If you pass a difficult examination and she supported you all the way through it and is as happy and excited as you are about the outcome, that indicates a true love situation.
Comfort
Another sign that someone loves you is if he is willing to give you comfort when you have endured a tough day. Comfort can mean anything from reassuring words to a big hug. Love is all about a person being there for another in the best and worst of times. If you can count on someone to comfort you and to be there for you when you are not feeling your best, that person really does love you.
Time Together
If an individual loves you deeply, one of her greatest pastimes is spending time with you, one-on-one. The time spent together doesn’t have to be centered around an elaborate plan or activity; it can simply be talking to you and enjoying your company. If a person always seems happy to see you, that indicates real love and caring.
Drama
If a person is willing to be patient with you and help you work through your personal drama, whether it’s about a major crisis at work or through a tense family situation, he loves you deeply. If you always feel that you have an ally in the toughest situations that life throws at you, that means love.
Attention
When a person is attentive to you and the casual little details of what you do and what you say, it means that she loves you. If she remembers small things you said to her in passing during conversation, or the color of the shirt you wore to a wedding last year, you are important to her and the things you do and say make a lasting impression on her.
Feelings
A lot of people do not like opening up to others about their innermost and most personal feelings. If a person shares with you all of his deepest thoughts and secrets, that shows trust, which in turn shows love.
How to Understand Women
Men seem to think women are very complicated and confusing. I am here to help you understand what most women want and need. Love is not as hard as most think, actually it is a naturally occuring action.
1. The first step to understanding a women is to listen. Listening while watching television does not work. In order to listen … and this goes for women also, you need to pay attention. If you are reading, watching television or any other activity, except looking at the other person you are not listening. When she is talking to you make eye contact, you will be surprise how well you remember what she tells you when you pay attention.
2. Most women who are extremely jealous are jealous for a reason. Think back about how you act in front of her with other women. Do you flirt with the waitress, clerk etc… If so you have just given her reason to think you do with every women you see and worse when she is not around.
Most women are not insecure unless given a reason to be insecure. Being nice to a person is one thing but flirting is another. If you need to flirt with a women while you are in the company with another women, than maybe you should be by yourself.
I have been with both the flirter and the man that could care less about how “adorable” the waitress thinks he is. I much prefer the man that cares about me and my feelings when he is with me. And never call other women by cute nicknames.
For example, I had a man frequent a bar after work with a few of his buddies. Much to my surprise was I when I walked in and found him addressing the bar tender as kiddo. No, not a very flirtatious name, but not a name you should address another person you are not dating. If you are dating someone than date them. If you want to flirt with all the girls, than go home alone and flirt all you want. Read the rest of this entry »
Things to Talk About at Dinner
With so many families living hectic lives on conflicting schedules, it’s difficult to find the time to sit down and have meaningful conversation. Coming together as a family at the end of the day allows families to discuss the day’s events, catch up on each other’s lives, bring up possible issues with school and work, and enjoy the company of family members.
Family dinner conversations can give family members a great deal of insight into relationships, personalities and general family dynamics.
Compile Some Conversation Starters
Most conversation among family members comes naturally. But there are times when you might need a bit of prompting. Creating conversation starters helps dialogue begin and continue smoothly. Designate a weekend to create, as a family, a conversation starter box. Purchase an index card file box and index cards.
Give each family member a few cards and have them write down some conversation topic ideas. Young children can draw pictures or have adults help with spelling and writing. Decorate the outside of the box with stickers, rhinestones, glitter or whatever else you like.
Conversation Starter Subject Ideas
It’s always interesting to know how other people see you. A good way to do this is through reverse role play. Pick a family member and switch roles. Moms and dads will gain insight into how their children view them and the same will be true for the children. Just be sure to refrain from excessive teasing. You’re going for an atmosphere of good-natured ribbing and fun.
Some other fun conversation starters to choose might be: What famous athlete would you like to be? If you could change one rule at school, work or home, what would it be? If you could be any age, what age would you be? Read the rest of this entry »
